About Us
A 4th Generation FAMILY Farm
Mappes Farms Meat Market was created as a way to offer our farm-raised Beef & Pork to local consumers. It's family-owned and operated by the farmer, Darryl Mappes, and the farmer’s daughter, Brittany Mappes-Opoien. We ARE NOT a Butcher Shop! We are just a family of farmers who raise the animals.
Our familys 4th Generation Farm is located right here in Norman, Oklahoma. Our farm, known as Mappes Farms, has proudly been a working pig and cattle farm for over 40+ years. It all started way back with Darryl’s dad, Henry "Doc" Mappes, wanting to raise a few show pigs along with beef cattle.
The Mappes name became well known for raising record-breaking "red hogs". Our highest record took place at the 2011 NSR Conference with our Champion Duroc Boar, known as Crown Royal, selling for $100,000. (‘Crown Royal’ is the hog on our Mappes Farms sign at the entrance to our farm!) Still today, we continue raising Durocs along with a few other breeds, not only for our Custom Pork production but also for future 4H/FFA projects. The grandkids living on the farm have all participated in 4-H, showing their swine projects. Every generation of the Mappes family has been big supporters of our Ag kids. These Ag kids are our nation’s future farmers!
Agriculture has been a part of our family for many years. Even generations before Mappes Farms. Our farming family tree goes back to the dairy barns that Henry (Doc) grew up around!
Our livestock are all born and raised on our farm, starting from birth. Besides the main farm we reside on, we have a few other farms where we rotate our cattle and also harvest crops from.
Another big job on the farm is our hay production. Darryl and the farmer’s son, Cole, work tirelessly in the fields to help stock a supply of hay to feed our livestock in the winter months, along with being able to provide hay for sale.
Our family believes in the future of agriculture, hard work, strong family values, and being deeply rooted in Faith. We hope to leave a legacy of beliefs and values passed down through generations, ensuring things are left better for those yet to come.
